Cybersecurity Do's and Don'ts

During a time where there is so much information circulating around the coronavirus, it is important to be aware that there are those that will look to exploit fears in the form of cybercrime. Whether you are a business owner or you are an employee that finds yourself with a new work from home arrangement, there are some things that you can be sure to do to protect yourself from cybercriminals.

1. Think Before You Click

Scammers want you to instinctively click first and think later. If a link or attachment seems suspicious, don’t click on it. Always have a healthy level of caution if you’re unsure.

2. Verify The Sender

If you’re unsure that an email is from the real sender, verify with a quick phone call to double-check. Do not reply to the email as this can be an easy way for scammers to take advantage of you.

3. Say No To Sensitive Data

If a request for personal information, passwords, or other sensitive data seems out of the ordinary or suspicious, don’t send it. Instead, make a call to the sender to provide sensitive information in a more secure way.

4. Be Skeptical Of The Unsolicited

If an unsolicited message or call comes from an unknown sender, do not share any information with that person. If someone comes out of nowhere asking for information, that is a red flag.

5. Flag Suspicious Communication

If you receive an email that seems suspicious, don’t keep it to yourself. Share your concern with a director or your technology team immediately. The more that are aware of this kind of behavior, the less likely there is that it will cause harm.
