Summer in the USA wouldn’t truly be summer without celebrating our nation’s independence on July 4th! And after one of the most historic and challenging years in our nation's history, now has never been a better time to come together and reflect on the many freedoms we have as a nation, and pay respect to our country’s history. Whether you were born in America, or have recently called it home, The Fourth of July is the perfect occasion to celebrate the country in all its glory. We’ve taken some time to reflect on this special holiday as a salute to our nation. Stay tuned this month as we pay tribute to our nation's frontline workers with our “Arnold Insurance Salute To Our Frontlines” blog series!
On July 4th, 1776, The United States of America was formed. Thomas Jefferson, drafted the Declaration of Independence, and would go on to be our country’s third president. At this time, there were thirteen colonies that claimed their independence from Great Britain. Over time, of course, our nation would grow into the 50 beautiful states we have now!
When The Fourth of July comes to mind, fireworks typically immediately follow that train of thought. At least, that is the case for us! Ever since the first commemorative Independence Day fireworks, set off on July 4, 1777, Americans all over the country have enjoyed shooting off spectacular firework displays. In fact, The Pennsylvania Evening Post wrote in 1777 that in Philadelphia, “The evening was closed with the ring of bells, and at night there was a grand exhibition of fireworks…”. This historical tradition has obviously stood the test of time, as our nation proudly displays fireworks all over the nation on the evening of July 4th each year to celebrate our country’s independence.
Many other traditions include barbeques, trips to the pool and beach, parades, and more! And the wonderful aspect to these celebrations is that each individual community has their own tradition for viewing firework displays and enjoying Independence Day festivities. This truly shows the diverse culture and rich value in our individual communities that we have as a nation.
The historical meaning behind this holiday is one of freedom and independence. Now is truly a special time for all Americans to recognize how fortunate they are to live in “the land of the free, and home of the brave”! This then encourages us to all take advantage of the many freedoms we have, and live our lives to the very fullest, cherishing all we have. At Arnold Insurance, we are proud to be seated in a nation that provides us these opportunities and freedoms. From our team to yours, we wish you a fun and safe Fourth of July!
