Ho, ho, ho! The holidays are quickly approaching. And, with them, chaos reigns supreme. The holidays are always busy times for families everywhere. Trust us when we tell you, strange things can and do happen. As insurance executives, we’ve seen and heard it all with crazy insurance claims across the board. However, the holidays seem to bring some of the craziest and most entertaining claims.
These are a few crazy Christmas insurance claims we’ve heard from our fellow insurance executives in the industry!
The sleigh in question was a prop used in a Connecticut gift shop that had been stolen. Thieves beware! Santa may be leaving lumps of coals in your Christmas stocking! Thankfully, it all worked out for the gift shop. However, we have to wonder how much insurance Santa’s sleigh would need?!
It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s a…flying Christmas tree? Yep, you read that right!
Stranger things do happen in Indiana where one insurance company reported a claim that a wayward Christmas tree came crashing through the windshield of the car driving behind a man returning from his Christmas shopping. The insurance covered all the damages and the victim was able to keep the rogue tree. Who doesn’t love a free tree?
One insurance claimant misjudged the weight of her turkey when removing it from the oven. The turkey plummeted to the floor leaving dinner and the flooring in potential ruins. The five-second rule was applied in this situation saving the family feast and the insurance covered the costs of replacing the ruined carpet. All’s well that ends well!
One homeowner reported that Santa had damaged their carpet with his dirty boots. However, the real culprit turned out to be a hungry squirrel that had gone rogue inside the home. Was the squirrel a cover-up for Santa? I guess we’ll never know.
Six-year-old cocker spaniel, Suki, embraced her inner piggy one Christmas wolfing down 12 mincemeat pies. When the pup’s parents returned home the poor dog was roughly double her original size and quite miserable (who wouldn’t be after eating that many mincemeat pies?!) After rushing her to the emergency vet, the vet announced the dog would be okay despite feeling more than a little sick. The insurance company not only covered the vet’s bill but also covered the cost of the medication.
These crazy Christmas insurance claims and many more like them showcase just how hectic the holidays can be. Peculiar things can happen.
